Aortic Stenosis

Bicuspid (and occasionally uni-cuspid) aortic valves show characteristic doming during
systole whether there is a significant pressure gradient or not.
Bicuspid aortic valves occur in approximately 1% of the population with a higher male than
female incidence.
Though flexible, long axis view of a bicuspid aortic valve shows "doming"
during systolic opening.
In short axis view, only two leaflets are shown opening along a single line
of closure.
